WIND TURBINES BILL TO BE DEBATED IN SENATE TODAY
Today Wednesday at 4.30pm, the WindTurbines Bill 2012 will be introduced by the Labour Senators' Group anddebated during private members' time. This Bill would restrict the placingof wind turbines near people's homes. There has been great public supportfor this Bill, as wind turbines placed too close homes may cause difficultiesparticularly in terms of noise.
Senator John Kelly will proposethe Bill on behalf of the Labour Senators, and will say:
“While we all fully support thedevelopment of wind turbines offshore and onshore as a sustainable energysource for Ireland, we must recognise that wind turbines placed too closeto people's homes may have a detrimental impact either visually, in termsof noise created, or in terms of potential health risks. This Bill wouldcreate a reasonable restriction on the placing of turbines too close tohomes and I am delighted to have the opportunity to introduce it in theSeanad.”
Leader of the Labour Seanad Group,Senator Bacik, will say:
“The introduction of this Billprovides an example of the effective use of the Seanad by Labour Senatorsas a forum for bringing forward legislation on issues directly relevantto the quality of life of individuals and families.”
