PRESS NOTICE – LAUNCH OF OIREACHTAS CYCLISTS GROUP AT 11am THURSDAY 12th JULY 2012, KILDARE STREET

This Thursday 12th July at 11am outside the front gate of Leinster House on Kildare Street, Senator Ivana Bacik has invited Oireachtas members from all parties to participate in a photo call to launch an All-Party Oireachtas Cycling Group, with the aim of promoting cycling and encouraging Senators and TDs to cycle to work.

The photo call is being organised in conjunction with the Dublin Cycling Campaign, members of which will be offering training to Oireachtas membersin safe cycling. Senator Bacik said about the event:

"During National Bike Week,I announced the launch of an Oireachtas Cyclists group, because we want to emphasise the importance of social influence in encouraging cycling generally –it is particularly important that members of the Oireachtas should be seen to encourage greater bicycle use generally by setting a good example. With this in mind, I have asked like-minded cycling TDs and Senators to join me in an All-Party cyclists group in Leinster House. We will have our first meeting and bicycle training session outside the frontgate of Leinster House on Kildare street at 11am on Thursday 12thJuly, and I invite all Oireachtas members to attend."
