Portobello Educate Together National School
02 October 2013
Four years ago, along with a group of local parents I set up the Portobello Educate Together multi-denominational school start-up group. I became Chairperson of the campaign group. After a period of intense activity, which saw our membership grow to over 1000 parents and families in our local community, our campaign for a new school in our area was successful. In September 2013 the Portobello ETNS opened its doors in a temporary premises on Harcourt Terrace, Dublin 2 – the former Film Censor’s office, beside the former garda station. The school is now going from strength to strength – we had a big Fun Day in Iveagh Gardens to celebrate the opening on 29th September 2013 and a pub quiz fundraiser on 22nd November. In September 2014, the school will be moving to its permanent premises on Basin Lane in Dublin 8 – a really welcome and historic development. See www.portobelloetns.org for further details. I am also very involved with the campaign for a new Educate Together secondary school in the Dublin city area – see http://www.educatetogether.ie/
