Museum Development at Walworth Road, Portobello

17 February 2014

I have been involved in supporting local residents in the Portobello area in objecting to the proposed development of the Museum at Walworth Road. I submitted an observation/objection to the scale of the proposed development of the Museum, and along with other local representatives I attended and made an oral submission at the oral hearing about the development before An Bord Pleanala on 5th November 2013. In my oral submission, I made the following points:

I support the residents in the appeal of the decision to grant permission to the development.

I believe that the scale of the building development would be out of keeping with the area.

I believe that the building development is not suitable for the narrow street on which it is proposed.

Like the local residents I am however fully supportive of the existing Jewish Museum which is a real asset to the local community.

I was very disappointed that the Bord gave its decision on 23rd December 2013 to confirm the granting of permission and not to grant the residents’ appeal . I will continue to work with the residents on future steps. Please see http://www.pleanala.ie/casenum/242003.htm for details of the appeal and decision of An Bord Pleanala.
