Bacik Launches Aim Family Services Website

01 May 2014

Senator Ivana Bacik will today be launching the new website of AIM Family Services, at 11am in the Mansion House, Dublin. AIM Family Services was founded in 1972, as a lobby group by Nuala Fennell and others, to raise awareness of issues relating to women, both within and outside of marriage.

In the 1970s and 80s, AIM campaigned successfully for reform in the areas of gender equality, children's rights and family law. In 1976, the group was renamed AIM Family Services and introduced a family law information help-line and drop-in centre, run by volunteers. Today AIM Family Services provides a low-cost, non-denominational counselling service for individuals, couples and families.

Speaking at the launch today, Senator Bacik will say:

“I am delighted to have been asked to launch the new website for AIM. The campaigning work they have done over four decades has been very important in contributing to the positive and progressive social change in family law and attitudes to family structure in Ireland today.”

“AIM continues to carry out important work through its counselling, mediation and information services. Today, it is developing further its social media profile. The use of Twitter, Facebook and the newly redesigned website will increase accessibility of AIM to all and ensure that many more people will continue to benefit from AIM’s services in the future. It is a remarkable achievement, even after 42 years, that AIM are still going strong with low cost counselling, mediation and information services. Today we celebrate that achievement.”
