Bacik endorses call for the urgent publication of referendum wording and timeline

Ivana Bacik TD, Labour Party Leader and Chairperson of the Special Oireachtas Committee on Gender Equality (which concluded in December 2022), endorses the call of the Equality Coalition, brought together today by the National Women’s Council, for the urgent publication of the referendum wording and clarity on the timeline for the vote on reform of Article 41 of the Constitution.

Deputy Bacik said:
"A great deal of groundwork has already been done to develop appropriate wording for reform of Article 41 of the Constitution. The Citizens Assembly and our Joint Oireachtas Committee on Gender Equality provided Government with a clear framework to proceed with this.

"Many women, families and carers continue to be impacted by the absence of recognition within the Constitution for care and for an inclusive definition of family. It is now time for Government to provide clarity on wording and timeline for this necessary vote."
