Posted on May 19, 2014

Earlier today, Monday 19th May at 11.00 am in Buswells Hotel, Kildare Street, Dublin 2, Senator Ivana Bacik hosted a ‘Women for Emer Costello’ press conference.

The prominent women who attended the event included women from academia, the arts, civil society, music, theatre and politics. A full attendance list is below.
Minister Joan Burton TD, Party Chairperson Loraine Mulligan and Emer Costello MEP all spoke at the event, which was chaired by Senator Bacik.

Speaking at the event, Senator Bacik said:

“I am delighted that so many women from different backgrounds have come together today to express their support for Emer Costello MEP. Emer is an outstanding candidate for Dublin in the European elections, who has always promoted women’s rights and equality issues, and has a strong track record on social inclusion. Many other women who can’t be here this morning, such as Independent Senator Katherine Zappone, have also expressed their support for Emer’s candidacy to represent Dublin in Europe.”

Speaking in support of Emer Costello, Catherine McGuinness said:

“I am supporting Emer’s candidacy as I appreciate the hard work she has been doing in the European Parliament for the past few years, and will continue to do if elected. I also believe it’s important that she continues to represent us in one of the two largest political groupings in the Parliament – because as a Socialist & Democratic MEP, she is able to see the practical implementation of her policies.”

Speaking in support of Emer Costello, Senator Jillian Van Turnhout said:

“I am supporting Emer as a candidate who constructively and robustly engages with the European Union as an MEP for Dublin.”

Speaking in support of Emer Costello, Patricia King of SIPTU said:

“I support Emer’s candidacy as a Socialist & Democratic MEP, and believe the recent government announcement on collective bargaining is a very positive step forward.”
