Bacik Chairs Launch of VSO 'Women in Power' Report

Posted on April 29, 2014

Senator Ivana Bacik will today be chairing the launch of a major report by VSO Ireland (Voluntary Service Overseas), ‘Women in Power: beyond access to influence in a post-2015 world.’

The launch is being co-hosted by VSO Ireland and Trocaire, and will take place in the Little Museum of Dublin from 1-2pm.

Speaking at the launch today, Senator Bacik will say:

“I am delighted to have been asked to chair the launch of this important report, which presents international data on women’s participation rates in public and political life. As the report shows, women have a noted lack of power to influence decision-making, compared to men. This lack of access to decision-making power by women is one of the deepest and most persistent fault lines of poverty and inequality in the world today.”

“The report strongly recommends that in the post-2015 international development framework, there must be a specific commitment to increasing women’s representation in public and political life, in order to ensure the empowerment of women and greater gender equality across different countries, both those that are developed and developing.”
