BACIK CALLS FOR STRONGER ACTION TO STOP KILLINGS OF CIVILIANS IN GAZA
Labour Seanad leader, spokesperson on Justice, Friday 25th July 2014
Senator Ivana Bacik today called for stronger action to be taken by the Irish and other EU governments to bring about a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas; and in particular to stop the Israeli bombardment of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. Senator Bacik said:
Today I wrote to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Deputy Charles Flanagan to address the horrifying situation in Gaza. Last week in the Order of Business I took the opportunity to ask the Leader to invite Deputy Flanagan, to come to the House as soon as we return in September for a debate on the situation in the Middle East.
I join Senator Darragh O'Brien in congratulating the new Ministers of State, although I understand they have not yet been formally appointed, and offering my commiseration to those who have lost office.
