I welcomed the passage of the Gender Recognition Bill 2014 through the Seanad this week - progressive change at last.
Glad to see the Government amendment providing for 2 year review and strict time frame.

Fatal Foetal Abnormalities - urgent need to legislate!
Following the defeat of Clare Daly's Fatal Foetal Abnormalities Bill which was largely deemed unconstitutional by those who voted against it, I wrote to Jerry Buttimer, TD Chair of the Oireachtas Health Committee asking that they hold hearings to begin the process of examining the possibility of legislating for abortion in cases of fatal fetal abnormalities.

LABOUR WOMEN ESTABLISH COMMISSION ON REPEAL OF THE EIGHTH AMENDMENT
Labour Women, the women’s section of the Labour Party, has established a Labour Women Commission on Repeal of the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution (Article 40.3.3).
This Commission is tasked with examining the best legal and political strategies to accomplish:
1. Repeal of Article 40.3.3 of the Constitution in its entirety;
2. The introduction of detailed legislation providing for the circumstances in which abortion may legally take place.
