To all Dublin University Graduates -
Thank you very much for all your support and help over the weeks of the Trinity Seanad election campaign. I am honoured and delighted to have been re-elected as a Senator. The final results of the Dublin University Seanad elections were announced on Wednesday 27th April 2016, see details at
In brief, the final valid poll was 16,064 votes. Senator David Norris topped the poll and was elected on the first count, as he had reached the quota of 4,017 votes. I came second out of the 16 candidates, and received 2,853 votes (17.8%) on the first count. I was elected on the thirteenth count, having exceeded the quota with a total of 4,114 votes. Lynn Ruane was deemed elected on the fifteenth count – after a very close contest, she defeated outgoing Senator Sean Barrett by 145 votes. I spoke at the conclusion of the count to pay tribute to the great work that Sean did in representing Trinity in the Seanad over the last five years, and I look forward to working with both David and Lynn during the term of this incoming Seanad.
Once again, I really appreciate your support, and look forward to continuing to represent Dublin University graduates in the Seanad, and to working with you to bring about progressive change on a range of issues.
Do contact me if you would like to see any particular issue raised in the Seanad - and thanks once again for your continued support,
Senator Ivana Bacik
