Speaking in Stormont at the 'Young Female Leaders Academy'

Thursday 22nd October 2015

I had the honour and great pleasure of speaking at the 'Young Female Leaders Academy' in Stormont. Organised by Politics Plus I joined Members of the Northern Irish Assembley and other highly engaging speakers in addressing the inspiring, young, female academy attendees. Great day and wonderful to meet so many enthusiastic potential leaders and decision makers.

Despite the introduction of gender quotas and years of lobbying and endless debates, the figures show that women representatives and in leadership roles are still a minority and not just in politics. For example women constitute half the Irish population, yet the percentage of women TDs has never exceeded 16 per cent, disappointing to say the least. Hopefully educational programmes such as the ones organised byWomen for Election, Politics Plus and others will help us transform those figures in the future.
